High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! A mill town, also known as factory town or mill village, is typically a settlement that developed around one or more mills or factories. In the United Kingdom, the term "mill town" often refers to the 19th century textile-manufacturing towns of northern England and the Scottish Lowlands, particularly those in Lancashire and Yorkshire. Manchester was bestowed with the name Cottonopolis as its immediate region was considered a metropolis of cotton processing mills. One of the most famous references to the early mills was in the poem/hymn "Jerusalem" by William Blake, in which "those dark satanic mills" were used to symbolise the injustice that a new Jerusalem ought to replace.

The Liverpool and Manchester Railway was the world's first inter-city passenger railway in which all the trains were timetabled and were hauled for most of the distance solely by steam locomotives. The line opened on 15 September 1830 and ran between the cities of Liverpool and Manchester in North West England in the United Kingdom. The L&MR was primarily built to provide faster transport of raw materials and finished goods between the Port of Liverpool and mills in Manchester and surrounding towns. In 1845 the L&MR was absorbed by its principal business partner, the Grand Junction Railway, the following year the GJR formed part of the London and North Western Railway.

Task Analysis: Using a Roundabout in the U.K.

Research Paper (undergraduate) from the year 2008 in the subject Ergonomics, grade: 1,3, University of Derby (Institut für Psychologie), course: Ergonomics, language: English, abstract: This report examines the task of using a roundabout in the United Kingdom (UK). It considers a special population: motorists who are not use to driving on the left. There seems to be no purely psychological literature existent about the issues with left-hand versus right-hand driving or roundabouts. Therefore, the report is a first attempt to gain insight into the subject matter and works from first principles. Firstly, it will describe the task 'using the roundabout'. Secondly, the user population will be specified. Thirdly, using the Hierarchical Task Analysis (HTA; Sheperd, 2000; cited in Mills, 2007) the crucial aspects of the task will be described. Fourthly, positioning the task in a psychological context the main psychological factors and their inter-relations will be evaluated. Finally, solutions for the issues found and methods for further investigations will be introduced.
